Google Ads
- Automated promotions to switch on by default for Search and PMax campaigns on October 12, 2026
Google emailed advertisers to say that from October 12, 2026 it will automatically identify and extract high-quality promotions, such as coupons and deals, from their websites and apply them to campaigns. Enrollment is automatic and opt-out, and it covers Search and Performance Max campaigns with linked location assets that do not already have promotion assets attached. Source
- Local Services Ads 'how leads work' rewritten to charge for missed calls over 20 seconds
Google substantially rewrote its Local Services Ads 'how leads work' help page. The biggest change: an unanswered call can now be charged if the caller stays connected for more than 20 seconds during business hours. The page also adds a 30-day lead review window, four charge statuses, and a 15-day rule that generally stops repeat contact from the same customer being charged again. Source
- Google raised the video engagement threshold from 5 to 10 seconds watched
Google updated its engagements reporting documentation so a viewer must now watch at least 10 seconds of a video ad for it to count as an engagement, up from 5 seconds. Engagement counts and engagement rates are recalculated on the new rules, so figures may look lower when periods either side of the change are compared. Source
- Demand Gen Display ads moved to a rendered-impression standard for view-through conversions
Google is changing how a view is counted for view-through conversion attribution on Display ads inside Demand Gen campaigns, moving from the Active View standard to a rendered ad impression. Under the new definition a single on-screen pixel counts regardless of how long it was visible, so reported view-through conversion volumes can rise without any change in performance. Source
- Online lottery ads to be allowed in Colombia from October 21, 2026 for CNJSA-authorized operators
Google Ads will update its Gambling and games policy on October 21, 2026 to allow online lottery advertising in Colombia. Operators must be registered with Coljuegos with a valid license, lottery operators must supply their authorization from the Consejo Nacional de Juegos de Suerte y Azar (CNJSA), and advertisers must apply for Google certification before running ads. - AI campaign localization tool launched in beta to translate whole Search campaigns
A new beta tool uses generative AI to localize an entire Search campaign for a new language or region. It builds a separate new campaign and leaves the original untouched, translating headlines, descriptions, sitelinks, callouts and keywords, and stripping text overlays from images so the translated message can be added as text assets. - 0% alcohol ads allowed in India, Indonesia and Egypt for certified advertisers
Google's alcohol policy now permits 0% alcohol beverages to be advertised in India, Indonesia and Egypt, three countries where alcohol advertising is otherwise banned. Advertisers targeting those countries must first complete Google's certification requirements. Source
- YouTube Masthead to accept certified online gambling ads from October 21, 2026
Google updated its YouTube Masthead ad requirements to allow online gambling advertisers to run Masthead ads provided they are certified under the Gambling and games policy. The change takes effect on October 21, 2026 and extends the Masthead's existing allowance for sports betting. Source
- Prediction market ads prohibited in Connecticut, effective immediately
Google updated its Prediction markets policy in the United States to prohibit ads for prediction markets contracts and related products in Connecticut. The prohibition took effect on October 7, 2026, the same day it was posted, with no transition period. Source
- A beta 'Direct offer' asset appeared in Google Ads for AI Mode promotions
A beta-labelled Direct offer asset was spotted in the Google Ads assets interface alongside Promotion, Message and Lead form, letting advertisers build the Direct Offers promotions that show to high-intent shoppers in AI Mode. Offers can be created at account or campaign level and serve only on campaigns using AI Max or text customization. Source
- Google Ads experiment reporting gained an AI insights panel on the Summary tab
Experiment reporting now carries a dedicated AI insights panel under the Summary tab. It states the experiment's goals, surfaces the top two insights with specific recommendations for the campaigns, and offers three prompting questions that open Ask advisor for further exploration. Source
- Conversion Lift studies became self-service, without needing a Google representative
Google rewrote its Conversion Lift help page so advertisers can set up studies themselves rather than going through a Google representative. The published thresholds are at least 1,000 observed conversions, a minimum campaign budget of $5,000 USD, and at least one Conversion Lift-compatible conversion action. Source
- AI Max added text customization asset previews so copy can be checked before opting in
Google documented a text customization asset previews feature that generates up to 10 sample headlines and descriptions from a landing page URL, so advertisers can see what AI Max would write before they opt in or launch a campaign. A new 'Text customization asset previews' section was added to the help page on text customization in Search campaigns. Source
- Google Ads added a calculator that derives a break-even Target ROAS from profit margin
Arpan Banerjee spotted a Google Ads calculator that turns an average profit margin, excluding ad spend, into a break-even Target ROAS. A 15% margin produces a 667% Target ROAS, and the tool shows where ROAS stops covering the margin. Source
- An 'Overlay on videos' asset optimization appeared in Demand Gen, on by default
Gert Jan van Egmond spotted a new 'Overlay on videos' setting in the Demand Gen asset optimization options, described by Google as adding key messaging with text assets on videos. It sits alongside 'Shorter videos' and 'Resized videos' and appears to be switched on by default, so advertisers who do not want text burned over their videos need to check their campaigns. Source
- Video reach campaigns gained automated bidding in beta, so Target CPM can be left blank
Google published a help page for automated bidding in video reach campaigns, a beta that removes the need to set a manual Target CPM. Google automatically sets and adjusts bids to spend the full budget, and the supported subtypes are Efficient reach and Non-skippable with a target CPM. Source
- Google documented GG_ transaction IDs as a sign your own transaction ID is not being sent
Google added an 'Understand Google-generated transaction IDs (the GG_ prefix)' section to its help page on using a transaction ID to minimize duplicate conversions. Transaction IDs starting with GG_ are temporary, system-generated identifiers that mean the advertiser's own ID is not being assigned, which breaks deduplication, so a GG_ prefix should be treated as a blank transaction ID. - Google Ads tested a new billing menu with roughly double the number of links
Govind Singh Panwar spotted a new billing layout in some Google Ads accounts that roughly doubles the number of billing links and rearranges Billing reports, Transactions, Payment methods and Account budgets. Summary and Billing reports currently show the same information. Source
- Google tested two new ways of showing website reviews in search ads
Sachin Patel spotted Google testing website reviews inside sponsored search results in two variations: the review rating shown next to the site name within the ad, and the total review count and rating under the ad's title alongside a 'Read user reviews' sitelink. Source
- Overview page added video impressions to conversion paths and a 'Performance by stage' card
The Google Ads Overview page now counts video impressions as well as views in conversion paths, marked with an eye icon, so video's earlier influence on the customer journey shows up. A 'Performance by stage' card groups metrics under awareness, consideration and action. Source
- Four AI Max columns appeared in Google Ads reporting
Vivek Gupta spotted four new AI Max-related columns in the Google Ads reporting console: Brand inclusions, Locations of interest, Commission and Optimized targeting. Source
- Google published a help page on ads paused for suspicious payment activity
Google Ads published a help page explaining what happens when an account is paused for suspicious payment activity. Affected advertisers get an in-account notification and an email, and must choose 'Answer questions' in the notification and supply payment history details before advertising resumes. Source
Merchant Center
- Merchant Center warned that products changing price or stock more than once a day may be disapproved
Google updated its Merchant Center automations help page to say that products whose price or availability changes frequently, such as more than once per day, may be disapproved instead of updated when Google detects a mismatch. Google also said it may stop automated updates altogether if the detected mismatches become too numerous. Source
- Low image quality stopped blocking products in Merchant Center; 500x500 pixel minimum lands January 31, 2027
Google updated its 'How to fix: Low image quality' help page so products with blurry, pixelated or low-resolution images continue to show in ads and free listings rather than being held back. Separately, from January 31, 2027 all product images must be at least 500 x 500 pixels, a threshold Google began warning about in July 2026. Source
Google Analytics
- Google Analytics added a User Groups Admin API for managing property access at scale
Analytics added an API for managing user group access to properties and accounts at scale. It can create, edit and delete groups and add or remove members, assigning each as a Member or an Owner. Source
Google Tag & Tag Manager
- Tag Manager release notes confirmed gtag('config') now lands in the dataLayer as a gtag.config event
Tag Manager's release notes confirmed that all gtm.js container snippets initialize on container load regardless of any gtag('config') commands, and that config commands now appear in the dataLayer as gtag.config events. Containers using wildcard custom event triggers may see those tags fire as a result. Source
Microsoft Ads
- Microsoft Advertising added messaging guidelines to text guardrails for AI Max copy
Microsoft Advertising added a messaging guidelines component to its text guardrails, so advertisers can name themes, claims, products, offers or topics for autogenerated AI Max assets to emphasise or avoid rather than only excluding terms. Text guardrails now hold up to 25 term exclusions and up to 40 messaging guidelines, and the feature is in a closed pilot. Source
ChatGPT Ads
- OpenAI announced visual ads that appear alongside ChatGPT image generation results
OpenAI announced a new visual ad format that runs alongside images people ask ChatGPT to generate, letting advertisers show what a product looks like rather than only a headline and description. Testing starts in the United States later in October 2026 with a small initial group of advertisers, and OpenAI said the ads are clearly labelled, kept separate from the generated image, and do not influence ChatGPT's answers. Source
- ChatGPT Ads expanded its click attribution, full-funnel and geo-experiment measurement partners
OpenAI widened the measurement integrations available to ChatGPT advertisers so they can measure web and app outcomes beyond the last click. Click attribution partners now include AppsFlyer, Triple Whale, Adjust, DV Rockerbox, Northbeam, Branch, Singular, Kochava, Airbridge and Tenjin, with Fospha, Measured and INCRMNTAL for full-funnel measurement and Haus, Measured and WorkMagic for geo-based incrementality testing. Search Console
- Search Console performance report country filter began accepting several countries at once
Google Search Central announced that the performance report country filter now accepts more than one country and returns a single combined set of Google Search traffic figures. Sites that operate in several markets previously had to export the data and group it in a spreadsheet to see a combined total. Source
- Bug left the Search Console performance report more than 64 hours behind
The Search Console performance report, which normally updates within a few hours, ran more than 64 hours behind on the morning of October 11, 2026. Barry Schwartz tracked the lag out to 66 and 67 hours before it fell back to 44 hours later that day, and another site owner reported a roughly 62-hour delay. Source
