OpenAI published its advertising principles and said it would begin testing ads in the U.S. for logged-in adults on the Free tier and the $8/month ChatGPT Go plan in the coming weeks. Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise plans would stay ad-free, and ChatGPT Go became available in the U.S. and everywhere ChatGPT operates.
- Principles: mission alignment, answer independence, conversation privacy and user control.
- Ads would appear at the bottom of responses only when a sponsored product or service is relevant, clearly labeled, and never near sensitive or regulated topics such as politics, health or mental health.
- Users could see why an ad was shown, dismiss it, turn off personalization or clear ad data; conversations would never be sold to advertisers.
