After screenshots of Target and Peloton app prompts in ChatGPT circulated, ChatGPT head Nick Turley said there were no live ad tests and the images were 'either not real or not ads'. Chief research officer Mark Chen said OpenAI 'fell short' and was turning off that kind of app suggestion while improving precision and adding user controls.
- The prompts came from the apps-in-ChatGPT feature launched in October 2025.
- Ad-related code had been spotted in a ChatGPT Android beta in November 2025.
