Over roughly two days Google removed free product listings and the popular-product carousels from Search results across the European Economic Area, with tracking showing 90-100% declines in affected countries. Google Ads Liaison Ginny Marvin confirmed the removal follows Digital Markets Act requirements; the space now goes to comparison shopping services.
- Declines of roughly 90-100% were recorded in Germany, France, Belgium, Sweden and the Netherlands, among other EEA markets.
- Ginny Marvin confirmed Google "indeed removed the free product listings because of the DMA ruling in Europe."
- The freed space now shows price comparison services (CSS / vertical shopping services) rather than Google's own product blocks.
- There was no transition period. Merchants who relied on unpaid Shopping traffic in the EEA are left with Shopping ads, routing through a CSS that takes a margin, or the traffic loss.
- Shopping ads themselves were not removed; this affects the free/organic listing surface only.
