Google started automatically upgrading Smart Shopping campaigns to Performance Max, progressing gradually through September 2022 with notifications 2-3 weeks before each upgrade. Upgraded campaigns become 'Removed' and non-editable with history retained, and new Smart Shopping campaigns can no longer be created; campaigns using features such as vehicle ads upgrade in early 2023.
