Google Ads API developer tokens sunset; API access levels moved to Google Cloud projects

Google sunset developer tokens on September 9, 2026 and now ties Google Ads API access levels to the calling Google Cloud project instead. Developers sign up for API access from the Google Ads API Overview page in the Google Cloud Console, with no Google Ads manager account required, and the API Center page in manager accounts is deprecated pending removal.

• Google mapped existing access levels onto Cloud projects by examining the last 90 days of API call logs to identify which project made each call.
• Existing code keeps working: a developer token may still be sent with requests, but it is optional and ignored by the API servers.
• Reassociating a developer token with a new Cloud project is no longer supported; a new project must apply for access on its own.
• The Test, Basic and Standard tiers are unchanged, but new Basic and Standard applications now require brand verification on the Cloud project. Basic Access review is automated and returns a decision within minutes.
• Basic Access applications still pending in the API Center when the change landed were closed, and those applicants must reapply through the Cloud Console.
