Search Console's performance report gained a search type filter that separates multimodal searches from text-based web searches. Google confirmed this is new data that was not previously counted, so sites with image-driven traffic should see totals move.
- The filter covers "search results triggered by a query that uses an image, photo, or screenshot": Google Lens, Circle to Search on Android, image uploads to Google Search, and Chrome's right-click "Search this image."
- Web results now break down into "Text-based" and "Multimodal" search type categories.
- John Mueller confirmed the important part: "the data wasn't previously in the counts, the report has new data." So a jump in impressions is the reporting change, not a traffic change.
- Limitation: specific text query data is not available for this traffic, because multimodal searches use images rather than text. The queries dimension is unavailable under this filter.
- Rollout began globally on September 24, 2026, appearing for sites that get multimodal search traffic.
