Google updated the list of advertising and marketing self-regulatory codes referenced by its Legal requirements policy, adding codes for Argentina, Australia, Chile, Colombia, Paraguay and South Africa. The underlying obligation is unchanged: advertisers must comply with local law everywhere their ads target.
- Google said it "updated this list to reflect additional codes in Argentina, Australia, Chile, Colombia, Paraguay, and South Africa."
- No new Google Ads restriction is introduced and no enforcement date was given. This is a reference list, not a policy requirement in itself.
- Google's framing: "Advertisers are expected to do their own research on the local regulations for any location that their ads target and should refer to these codes where relevant."
- If you run campaigns in any of the six markets, the relevant industry code is now named in Google's own documentation, which makes it harder to argue you were unaware of it.
