Google began testing a pricing model where advertisers set a fixed amount for a defined action such as a lead, sale or pageview and paid only when it was completed. PPA ads ran solely on content network sites, where publishers chose which ads to place, and supported text, image and a new inline text link format.
Actions were measured through AdWords conversion tracking. The timeline dates this March 29, 2007; the Inside AdWords post is dated March 20.
